New tag! Random what is happening in Indonesia?!? Well not that random actually. Because God doesn't play dice with us. Heh. Because here I will talk about things happening in Indonesia related to Korea whether in book, film, education, entertainment and else that can be random.
The reason behind: Hey we here! *waves hands* Indonesia. We like Korean related stuff. Why don't you come? You know who you are *snerk* Flight to Singapore, Thailand, Philippine, Malaysia even Seoul for a music concert? Done that. Will we do it again? Sure we will for our love that holy :) But no more rumored and canceled music concerts (nope, not just a show case). Dear, it breaks our heart.
Love you still though.
xoxoxo your no.1 fan.

For the first time is yeps a book. With the Hallyu wave hits Indonesia, not a thing is missed the impact. Book translated from Korean book, book talking about Korean things (pop culture, food, even make up), and book inspired by Korean related stuff is popping up here and there lately. But sadly there's still no decent Korean - Indonesia dictionary ;(
And for the start is a book title Infinitely Yours written by Orizuka. This book also has Korean title, no joke, 영 원한 그대의 사랑 and no Indonesia title is listed. But let me translate it to Indonesian Hanya Untukmu Cinta. Psst. I know why she didn’t list the Indonesian translated title: It does sound cheesy. This book pictures the life of Indonesian K pop fan girl. No fandom ever existed without fangirl(boy) right?
FYI, I don’t like chick-lit, I don’t read chick-lit. Just say I have passed that stage already. And this book is sorta one of the kind, so I was probably not gonna read it if the story is not about K POP! I’m usually more critical about book than drama. I can easily swallow all the K drama cliché and just have fun watching, but not for book. But I try to tame down my self, despite how many time I rolled my eyes while I read it.
This book has all the K drama clichés that ever invented in K drama land especially in Rom Com territory. If you have been watching K drama for almost 10 years like me, you can easily predict the story. No spoiler alert is needed lol. See what we got here:
- Darcy type of hero: Check. Seriously girls, don’t you want a warm, understanding, and funny boyfriend IRL?
- Bubbly, childish, and petite heroine that changes the Darcy type of hero: Check. All think-before-she-talk, snarky to sarcastic kind of girls can move aside. NOO where’s the fun??
- Accidentally 1st meet by hitting one to another: Check.
- Accidentally 2nd , 3rd , 4th,… meet: Check.
- Hankang brooding time: Check.
- Bus ride with unsaid "I'm too sleepy, may I sleep at your shoulder?": Check. I really hate it when it happens in real life.
- One hotel, one room rule: Check.
- Sleep talk, drunken talk: Check.
- Who-sleep-on-the-bed bickering: Check.
- What happened at night "Did you or didn't you.....? *checks under bed cover*: Check.
- Unintended “I’ve married” lie: Check. Marriage is no joke, people.
- Snow time! Watch out for the snow ball, it usually hits you on the face: Check.
- Sorry for I'm falling on you (literally) but I lie *lingers*: Check.
- Wound that mostly occurred on the corner of lips is the reason I can stare at your lips lustfully *applies medicine*: Check.
- Noble idiocy: Check.
- Airport goodbye scene: Check. Because of this kind of scene, my mind goes wild every time, I'm at airport. Andweee... gajimaaa sarangaaa, tteonagajimaaa....
- Time elapse: Check.
- Cell phone and tablet advertisement: Check. No, yeps, K drama is not complete without it, seriously :D
Girl you miss the piggy back ride, piggy back! Come on It. Is. Piggy. Back. Ride…
Talk about the story. The story is about Jingga, 25 years old, K pop addict who is on her second trip to Seoul to meet Kang Yun-jae, her prince on the white horse. She adores Korea, the people, the language, the culture, the food, and K pop addict, you say it, you name it.
Our Darcy hero is Rayan, 28 years old, an architect who looks like Kang Dong-won. (Psst) The reason why he is on trip to Seoul is to find his long lost ex-girlfriend, Mariska. She left him to marry a Korean man, Jin Ki. For that, the opposite of Jingga, Rayan dislikes Korea.
Rayan's first meet with Jingga is at airport when he accidently hits Jingga, so she drops her PSP. That marks the start of series of their “accidently” meet and being stuck together. They were decided to be a tourmate.
In his attempt to find Mariska, Rayan tries to sneak off from the tour. Jingga who feels responsible as Rayan's tourmate, decides to accompany him. Not success in their first, they finally meet her after he see her through Taxi’s window and then they stalk her to a café where she has a date with Jin Ki. Mariska says that she can’t get back together with Rayan and explains that she is happier together with Jin Ki and felt boring together with Rayan. (Ouch). Sad, Rayan needs a time at Han River side, of course where else. Their sneaking off results on them, being left behind by other tour participants, and adds another reason for them being stuck together.
To cheer Rayan up and to prove Korea is not that bad, Jingga decides to hold a Korea romantic tour for Rayan. They go to N Seoul Tower, throwing a key for love lock, riding a cable car, and writing on its wall ala Boys Before Flower (oh no, don’t your book is gonna be banned in Korea lol); Dongdaemun market, eating jajangmyeon and shopping couple hoodies and rings; and love hotel because Rayan lost his wallet for a boy band looked like pickpocket. No need to worry cause he finds it at the next day (Sigh, you know somehow my melodramatic K drama inside can’t accept that).
With the help of a Korean family, they manage to catch up the tour group. Yun Jae doesn’t seem like with what happen on them. He’s angry and punches Rayan on the face. And found later that Yun jae has a feeling for Jingga. He confesses his feeling to Jingga and Rayan “accidently” watches it. Rayan gets jealous but thinks this probably just a momentarily feeling. Jingga get confused and thinks, enlighten, it is like angle, wives, bride’s temptation that test her love for Yun Jae *rolling eye*. So although she realizes that her feeling for Rayan is real, she chooses to not to reject Yun Jae’s feeling but not to say yes either (ajhakjghkhj). Tour ends. Jingga and Rayan say goodbye.
Three months later… (SPOILER, SPOILER, SPOILER)
It turns out Rayan finds out what Jingga’s feeling really is from the book that she gave him on the day they came back from Korean. That book records the memory of their journey in Korea and it ends with안녕 사랑아 행복해야돼 goodbye my love, be happy. Because he can’t speak or write Korean, he sends the photos of those Korean words to his friend whom he knew she is K addict too (lol, whae you are so common). Yun Jae’s words about the momentarily feeling linger in his mind. What if that feeling just goes away after Jingga deciding to stay with Rayan, and letting go Yun Jae, her ultimate price on the white horse? No, it won’t do, Rayan thinks. He just needs to ignore it. But after three month, his feeling just won’t go away. He keeps the couple ring.
And what happens to our heroine? She can’t forget Rayan. She can’t be happy. She can’t contact him because she’s afraid he has already forgotten and hates her. But she can, absolutely, type his name on search engine (LMAO, I thought I was the only one who do that. Another proof there’s always a stalker side in every K pop addict :D ). But unlucky her, he got no Facebook, Twitter, or Blog (for someone lives in Jakarta and aware of internet, but doesn’t have all that, I give Rayan my standing obviation). She keeps the couple ring, too.
Back to Korea again those two people. Jingga has been invited by Yun Jae because he wants to propose her. Rayan comes for an architecture exhibition. Finally!, she figures out her feeling and says to Yun Jae she can not accept his proposal. Walking through the Cheonggye river side, she reminisce all her memory with Rayan in Korea. Until she thinks she sees someone who looks like Rayan or is he Rayan? She thinks she’s crazy and just too missing him. God is good, it is really Rayan. Rayan is also surprise, he can meet Jingga again, after those three miserable months (Comparison: Can You Hear My Heart: 16 years, Autumn In My Heart: 7 years (?), Coffee House: 2 years, some people IRL: Forever). He can’t believe it he meets her in Korea, the country he doesn’t like. And they hug. She cries. He says: “Should I say sarangae?” Korea is not that bad after all, it is not bad at all.
The End.
The fun of read this kind of book is it is so easy to read. Nevertheless, it makes you feel happy no matter how predictable the story. It is like read your familiar leftover dream. I had some good laugh (and some good eye rollings) in reading it. I think her writing is not flow really well, a bit stilt. But it improves as the story goes. At last, her Indonesian grammar is good. I had read a writer whose Indonesia grammar is so bad. I could not identify the subject, predicate, and object in complex sentences. Heck, her sentences are so ambiguous, I needed to guess the point of her sentences *shudder*. I wanted to pull the editor’s hair.
And I’m happy to read a book like this that doesn’t use gue (“I” in one of our local dialect) or lue (“you” in one of our local dialect) as a pronoun. I mean if not we, Indonesian, who write and speak in proper Indonesian language, who else does? Yes I know sometime the using proper Indonesian language makes the book is read stiff, stilt, does not picture the reality. But I think it is because we just don’t get used to it. Sometime I like to read translated book more than Indonesia one because it still flows well, and isn’t stiff though it uses proper Indonesian language, in formal or informal situation. The Indonesian grammar is good. The subject, predicate, and object are easily indentified so the point of the sentence is clear. Why is it the translated book can do that, Indonesia book can not?
The way of she switching from Indonesian to Korean suddenly, got me confused. One time: Huh, Korean taxi driver or ajummoni selling clothing at Dongdaemun can speak Indonesian? The other time: Does Jingga speak this in Korean, English, or Indonesian? But never mind, too many K pop songs with random English or Engrish make me getting used to it (lol).
And the part of the book that I like beside the cover, the illustration, and the papers that are used, is the titles of each chapter. She uses the title of K pop songs as the title of each chapter. An A is from me for those. Oh you such a K pop addict J

Neogen ibyeol, Naegen gidarim
Neogen ibyeol, Naegen gidarim
기나긴 하루가 가네 내 마음 모두 아는 것처럼
Ginagin haruga gane nae maeum modu aneun geotcheoreom
Walking all day long, my heart seem to know it all
시간이 빨리 지나가면 더 잊혀질는지
Sigani ppalli jinagamyeon deo itjyeojineunji
Time passes quickly and be forgotten
너의 빈자리를 빼면 모든 건 제자리에 있는데
Neo-e binjarireul ppaemyeon modeun geon jejarie ineunde
Except the fact that you're not here, everything is in its place
가슴이 고장 났는지 너를 보낸 걸 실감 못해
Gaseumi gojang naneunji neoreul bonaen geol silgam mothae
My heart broke, when without I realize I've sent you away
나의 모든 사랑은 헛된 얘기
Na-e modeun sarangeun heotdoen yaegi
All my love become in vain
나 이렇게 너를 보내 하지만 나에겐 기다림의 시작 인 걸
Na ireoke neoreul bonae hajiman na-egen gidarim-e sijak in geol
Thus I send you away, however this is my start of waiting
떠나가지마 내 사랑아 두 번 다시 널 볼 수 없잖아

Don't go away my love, I won't be able to see you again
내 맘속에 남아있는 그대
Nae mamsoge namaineun geudae
You remain in my heart
떠나가지마 내 사랑아 두 번 다시 널 볼 수 없잖아
Tteonagajima nae saranga du beon dasi neol bol su eopjana
Don't go away my love, I won't be able to see you again
어디서든 언제라도 힘들고 지칠 땐 내게로 돌아와 제발
Eodiseodeun eonjerado himdeulgo jichil ttaen naegero dorawa jebal
Everytime you're feel tired, wherever you are, please come back to me
행복해야 해 내 사랑아 그 날까지 영원할 때까지

Be happy my love, until that day and forever
그대만은 나를 잊고 아낌없이 지워

I don't know somehow that Neogen Ibyeol, Naegen Gidarim phrase is stuck in my brain. Oh K pop what have you done to me :D
