Indonesia is appointed as host of Sea Games 2011 and has been hold the event from November 11 to November 22, 2011. If you don't know what Sea Games is, it is a multi-sport event that participated by countries in South East Asian region and held every two years. As football is one of the most popular sports in Indonesia, football match between Indonesia versus Thailand on November 13 drew large attention from Indonesians even if they are not a soccer fan themselves. Becoming the host, Indonesia has a big chance to be overall winner in the SEA games 2011. That fact will not complete if Indonesia doesn't win the prestigious one and only football gold medal. For the record, Indonesia doesn't have good rapport in football match opposing Thailand. Further more to say Indonesia-Thailand rivalry in football is deep rooted, since they compete to be the number 1 in football in South East Asia region for as long as I can remember, while Malaysia and Vietnam can not be underestimated. Not to forget, this game was crucial for Thailand team, if they want to get through to semifinal, they need to win the game.
Yet, I'm here not to talk about the scandal behind SEA Games 2011 event in Indonesia because I run out of my shamelessness, nor to talk about the hulla balloo in Indonesia Football Association (PSSI) and its league, sure some people's shamelessness has no boundaries. Because Indonesia-Thailand football match brought me to this small-silly talk with my friends via Facebook:
Non K Fan Friend:"It is not because Korean fever that even the referee, chosen to lead Indonesia vs Thailand match, is from Korea?"
Pohonphee with netizen eagle eyes had found out the fact since the whistle, mark the start of game's 1st round, is blown: "lol, yes I ship the referee :P".
Non K Fan Friend, knowing me as K Fan: "Now, I know it IS because Korean fever for sure".
Like the nature of K pop fans, poping up K Fan Friend No. 1: "kh, kh, kh Lee Min-ho's brother". Yes, we are K Pop fans are a little bit much delusional sometimes.
Non K Fan Friend:" Waa, here we come another one..."
K Pop Fan No.2: "But he is quite good, no, not because the two red red cards ;D". Indonesia team gained some advantages with two red cards given by Kim Jong-hyeon, the referee. It cut the number of Thailand team player from 12 to 10. I can understand the referee's decision, but there's still left mixing reaction about it out in public. And yes K fan dome's bias is strong than to angry and bash, better to take it is as a consideration to make your own judgment. No one is left without bias, from fan dome or nationality.
K Pop Fan Friend No.1: "Yeah, we are xixixi K pop fans high five....". Yes, my friend high five J
How hard Hallyu Wave, known in Indonesia as demam Korea or Korean fever, can hit a country? I mean before my non K fan friend mentioned it, that thought had already appeared in my mind when I know the referee is a Korean like "OMO....(speechless)". After Hyun bin case or Lee Jun-ki and mate case I couldn't stop that thought from appearing. Without intention to degrade Indonesia team that played superbly, Thailand team that still could give dangerous attacks though the number of its player had been cut down, or above the red card controversy, one could say nothing but fair and square about the referee leadership on the game, I keep thinking "huh, what else Indonesia government can do?". Indonesia is not like superpower U.S.A, but my beloved country can do many unbelievable, mind-blowing things that leave me standing agape. Some of the many things are, I admit, caused by nerves that control shame feel in some people are cut lose, but some are simply amazing.
And somebody please help me define what the Hallyu Wave is all about? Perhaps I get lost in fan dome. I mean sometime I hear that Hallyu Wave is about Korea tries to introduce, if not to export, its culture to the world, and then my forehead is wrinkled. So it is beyond K drama and K pop? Take this case when I say I like Beyonce, it is not because she is American or Coldplay because they come from U.K or Sandy Sandoro because he is Indonesian. The small reason I love K drama, because the actors in it speak Korean, Korean language just rings so good in my ears and I hate dubbing, but then does it mean I’m lack nationalism and forgetting my own culture? If the notion about Hallyu Wave is like I said above. Yes I can understand why some people think that notion is offensive, who want to say their culture is less beautiful and attractive than other culture? For Indonesian: If it is ok, even praising, for you to see Westerners or Japanese learn Indonesia culture, its dance, its song, its language, but it is not ok if Indonesian learns other culture, no matter what the culture is?
A peep institution (I censor so no body get offended) that was recently opened in Jakarta and I think it is one of the attempt to spread the Hallyu Wave wrote at its FB wall: Let's vote Jeju Island as new seven wonders. Pssst. I mean yeah it is fine if you are Jaejoong or Yuchun who writes it, their fans are diverse, can be Korean or can be not and they are Jeju Island tourism ambassadors but this institution’s audiences are Indonesians and we have Komodo Island to vote for >ㅇ<. It seems just weird. Never heard about conflict of interest before? Don't they think it is time to learn other countries too?
By and by, Indonesia government is amazing, we got to see the same referee in semifinal Indonesia vs Vietnam. I giggled every time the television commentators said: "this referee named Kim Jong-hyeon, he is from SK" for how many time? And the camera zoomed in on mode to the referee giving card to player. Lol. See you in final Indonesia team!! ashaa!! hwaiting!
